APC, REFORM NOW OR RISK IRRELEVANCE

The All People’s Congress (APC) party in Sierra Leone is at a crossroads. With its 2022 constitution facing widespread criticism for being undemocratic and disadvantageous to its own members, the party is staring at a bleak future if it fails to reform.

The current constitution has been accused of concentrating power in the hands of a few individuals, undermining the principles of democracy and inclusivity. Many of the clauses are seen as unrealistic and detrimental to the party’s growth and popularity.

The APC must recognize that the 2022 constitution is not a sacred document, but a flawed instrument that requires amendment. It is time for the party to put the interests of its members and the nation above individual ambitions.

A level playing field is essential for the party’s survival. The current constitution’s clauses will only serve to further alienate and disfranchise members, leading to a brain drain and a loss of credibility.

The APC’s leadership must take bold steps to reform the constitution, ensuring that it is inclusive, democratic, and representative of the party’s values. Failure to do so will not only harm the party but also undermine the democratic process in Sierra Leone.

We urge the APC to seize this moment and embark on a path of reform, transparency, and accountability. Amend the 2022 constitution to reflect the needs and aspirations of its members and the nation. The alternative is unthinkable – a party that is irrelevant and marginalized, unable to contribute to the country’s development and progress.

The people of Sierra Leone are watching, and the APC must act now to regain their trust and confidence.
